GRP Sectional Tanks – Sectional Tanks
Derwent Water Services’ sectional tank panels are hot press moulded in glass reinforced plastic (GRP) and are LPCB approved for fixed fire-fighting sprinkler systems and WRAS approved for potable water storage.
Hot press moulding is extensively used worldwide in the GRP industry. The major advantage over traditional labour-intensive manufacturing methods is the assured consistent strength of the panels. Derwent offers sectional tanks ranging from 1 – 1000m3 litres capacity and can be erected to a height of 4m, in 1m or 0.5m increments. All panels are fully tested to resist pressures in excess of six times their intended working pressure.

Designed in-house using the latest computer-aided design technology and finite element analysis (FEA), ensuring compliance with BS 7491 Pt 3 : 1994, glassfibre reinforced plastic cisterns for cold water storage. Panels have been designed and tested to resist pressures in excess of six times their intended working pressure.
Dimensional stability and close tolerances achieved by controlled manufacturing process ensures cost-effective consistent panel quality. Traditional methods of manufacture rely on high levels of labour and skills to give repeatable product quality.
Closed matched steel moulds
Provides strong consistent panels of uniform thickness with a smooth crevice-free hygienic finish on all surfaces to prevent the formation of algae, bacteria, or fungi and allows for easy cleaning. The dimensional accuracy and consistent mechanical properties allow the effective construction of large and deep sectional tanks.
Purpose-designed automated drilling equipment is used to accurately drill panels to close manufacturing tolerances, ensuring correct alignment of bolt holes and proper joining and sealing of panels.
Chemical resistant isophthalic polyester resin system used as standard, providing improved resistance to bacterial growth, increased water resistance and reduced risk of osmotic attack.

Totally opaque panel
Panels are designed and manufactured with an internal UV-resistant layer preventing any light transmission forming algae-growth in the tank.
Panels are moulded at temperatures of up to 150°C attaining the maximum material properties. Distortion of panel flanges is minimised, benefiting the jointing and sealing of panels.
Profiled heavy-duty cover
The heavy duty cover is designed to the loading BS 6399 Pt 1 1984. The special profiled shape resists maintenance, wind and snow loads.
Derwent offers flat and pillow-shaped panels as standard.
Insulated panels (encapsulated)
When insulating is required, Derwent provides factory-insulated panels using a 40mm thick, CFC-free, low-density polyurethane as standard, giving a U-value of 0.6W/m2K which exceeds relevant BS standards. A 40mm thick balseal 3802 foam is used where appropriate.
Profiled external cover
The PU foam is fully protected by a profiled external integrated cover. The cover is UV-stabilised for maximum weathering and durability and is a close colour match to the panels.
Developed specifically for use on the tanks range, Balseal sealent is an extruded rubber compound formulated to provide optimum performance within a wide range of temperatures which will not exude between the panel flanges. Balseal sealant is WRASc approved for use with potable water.
The bracing system is designed to BS 5950 and is optimised to limit deformation of the structure and avoid point loadings on the panels.
The rigidity of the system allows the tanks to withstand fluctuating loads endemic to water storage tanks. All external steel work is hot-dip galvanised; all internal steel work is stainless steel 316 / A4 (marine grade).
All fasteners within the tank are A4 stainless steel (marine grade) as standard. All external fasteners are galvanised to ensure maximum life. An option of stainless steel external fasteners is available on request.
The M100 is available in any of the following permutations :
Height : 1.0m, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0
Length / width : Unlimited, although consultation with Derwent’s design engineering department is recommended for dimensions in excess of 20m.
Insulation : Base, Walls, Cover
Base : IFB for installation on flat support, EFB for insulation on raised pier walls or bearer beams.
Wrasc approval has been obtained on the M100 tank range to section 135 and M100-30 range to section 120. C/W fittings for compliance to Bylaw 30. The approval covers tanks with the capacities up to 4 metres in depth.
